Community ties have always been important to Sustainable Group and with the 2015-16 football season now upon us, the company has been lending its support to local team Heswall FC.
Established in 1891, Heswall competes in the West Cheshire First Division and, back in the 1980s, Sustainable chairman Derek Horrocks used to play for the team. This year, he was appointed as its vice president and he was quick to offer the company's help in radically enhancing the facilities and the clubhouse.
Sustainable Group staff began by providing painting and decorating services to brighten its appearance. Follow-up works included new flooring and lighting, seating improvements, minor plumbing works, new signage and the fitting of additional smoke alarms. Carried out at no cost to the club, the refurbishment represented the first phase of a three year club sponsorship deal that should help to improve the club's fortunes on and off the pitch.
The clubhouse is an important asset to the team. Not only does it provide a bar and catering on match days, it also acts as an important source of revenue by providing a venue for private functions. Its new facelift will therefore help maximise its appeal and maintain the club's position at the heart of the local community.
"I'm very proud of my links with Heswall FC," said Derek Horrocks. "It's a true community club that encourages children as young as six to get involved in the sport. It's a great way for children to make friends, develop new skills and, of course, stay fit and active. There's also a real culture of progression - taking players from the youth teams right through to the adult first team - so it really can be a club for life."
