SBS on Welsh Energy Efficiency Framework

Sustainable Building Services (UK) Limited has secured a place on a new energy efficiency works framework, which will operate across the whole of Wales until 2020. Managed by Valueworks and Flintshire County Council, the £200m framework agreement covers seven Welsh regions and seven work-streams.

All applicants were scored against published criteria, including quality and price, and SBS was duly awarded a place on 16 separate lots. Principally, these lots entail insulation and associated works, the extraction of old cavity wall insulation, and the installation of energy efficient glazing.

The framework itself is aligned with the Welsh Government's Domestic Energy Strategy, which seeks to deliver energy efficiency improvements to a total of 1.3 million homes over the next four years. These improvements will include cavity and loft insulation, boiler replacements and the installation of biomass systems and heat pumps. One specialist element will be the installation of solid wall insulation systems - internal and external - to as many as 336,000 homes.

SBS has a long and successful record of delivering energy efficiency works on social housing projects in Wales. Independently of the new framework, the company is currently working with Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd (CCG), installing new warm roofs, energy-efficient glazing and solid wall insulation systems to a variety of social housing properties in Gwynedd. It has also been appointed by Denbighshire County Council to carry out a £1.3 million scheme involving the refurbishment of 92 occupied properties in Corwen, Ruthin and Rhyl.

"We're very pleased to have been awarded a place on the new framework," said company chair Derek Horrocks. "It consolidates our position as a major provider of energy efficiency works in Wales, and it will enable us to play a continuing role in alleviating fuel poverty across the UK, which still remains a vital challenge for the industry as a whole.

"We have built up an excellent track record in the field and I'm pleased that this has been reflected in the quality scores we were awarded. I'm also pleased to see that a number of our regular supply chain partners have won places on the framework, including PermaRock Products Ltd, which was ranked number one on the associated external wall insulation supply framework. We have a very reliable network of suppliers and we look forward to working with them again in the coming months."
