On 1st August 2017, the National Insulation Association appointed Derek Horrocks as Chair of the NIA Strategic Board. Derek, who is chair and owner of Sustainable Group (UK) Ltd and PermaRock Products Ltd, had previously served as Vice Chair of the Strategic Board.
Sustainable Building Services (UK) Limited has secured places on two new social housing frameworks.
The procurement consortium Efficiency North has named SBS as one of its preferred specialist contractors on a £400m heating, electrical and roofing framework. The work in question will be undertaken for social housing clients in Yorkshire, Humber and the wider region.
SBS was selected as one of the contractors shortlisted to deliver the £90m Roofing and Associated Ancillary Works element of the framework, focusing on individual projects valued at under £2m.
Sustainable Building Services has received confirmation that it has been made principal contractor for a new energy efficiency demonstration project in Nottingham.
The Remo Urban Project is a European-funded urban regeneration model, supported by Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham City Homes (NCH), Nottingham City Council's enviroenergy team and other partners. It aims to provide a blueprint for industry best practice that other social housing providers can subsequently replicate.
A Parliamentary report by the Green Building Council has emphasised the urgent need for better insulation within Britain's housing stock.
The authors note that home heating accounts for a third of the UK's carbon emissions and that if the country is to stand any chance of meeting its reduction targets, then it must make poorly insulated homes a priority. Under international agreements, the UK is required to achieve an 80% reduction in its CO2 emissions by 2050.
